PATCHWORK
Patchwork is so much more than cutting and joining pieces of fabric together, sandwiching them together with padding, sewing the layers together and adding backing, borders and binding. Each worked item holds a piece of the maker. Do you, like me, wonder why that person decided to make a quilt or coverlet? Do you wonder what was going on in their lives, what they are thinking or where they are from? Have you ever seen a piece of work that moved you? I know I have on quite a few occasions and, to me, that is part of the fascination of quilts and their makers. Why did they choose that particular colour or fabric? Why did they choose that particular pattern to quilt on their piece? In these modern times, when less quilts and covers are made purely as a necessity to keep warm, what pushes people on to keep making them? There are many reasons and that in itself is a fascination.
